  • Shingles vaccine free of charge to people aged 80 years and older as well as for people aged 18 years and older who are immunocompromised

    Vaccination is the best way to protect against shingles and its complications. Shingles is caused by a reactivation of the varicella virus. It can occur at any age but more often in people over 50.

    The shingles vaccine is offered free of charge to:

    • people aged 75 and over.
    • immunocompromised people aged 18 and over.

    These people can get vaccinated regardless of their history of chickenpox or chickenpox vaccination.

    The vaccine is also recommended for people aged 50 to 74, although it is not free for them. They can make an appointment at certain community pharmacies or consult their medical clinic for more information.

    Two doses, administered 2 to 12 months apart, are needed to ensure long-term protection.
