  • KANGAROO METHOD Skin to skin

The CISSS de Laval is committed to promoting the kangaroo method to emphasize the benefits of skin-to-skin contact between newborns and parents.

Skin-to-skin contact is a special moment for parents and their child. In addition to stabilizing vital signs such as breathing, heart rate, blood pressure, temperature and oxygen saturation, skin-to-skin contact stabilizes blood sugar levels, reduces stress (cortisol), promotes breastfeeding and attachment, and reduces crying and painful sensations in babies. Studies have shown specific benefits for premature babies, as skin-to-skin contact protects against infections, promotes weight gain, increases sleep quality and brain development, and reduces the duration of time in hospital.  d’hospitalisation.

    Kangaroo-a-Thon – May 1 to 15, 2019

The CISSS de Laval launched a promotional campaign called the Kangaroo-o-Thon to promote the benefits of skin-to-skin contact between newborns and parents. During the event, nursing staff at the family centre (birthing unit, mother-baby unit, neonatology unit, pediatrics) and the operating room (caesareans) will invite clients to practice skin-to-skin contact with their babies.
