    You can also call 1 833 991-2662, open Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 4 pm, except on holidays.

    Preparing for your appointment

    Before going to a test centre, don’t forget to:

    • Bring your Health Insurance Card.
    • Read over your sample collection form request for any special instructions.
    • Follow the instructions, if any (don't eat or drink, no alcohol, etc.).
    • Bring the sample collection form request that your doctor gave you.


    NOTE : Only paper requests will be processed. 

    In order to proceed with the test, your doctor must complete the Identification du prescripteur section and if applicable, the Renseignements cliniques section of the sample collection form.

    Specific information

    Tests requiring an appointment at Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé. Please call 1-833-991-2662 for:

    • Semen analysis
    • Lactose tolerance tests - Test available only for people of 16-years-old and over
    • D-xylose absorption test - Test available only for people of 16-years-old and over
    • Pregnant women: 1st screening test at 10 to 14 weeks and blood test for the Trisomy 21 Prenatal Screening Program of Québec (Laval region)

    Women who are going to deliver at Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé must come to the hospital’s test centre (MANDATORY) between 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday.

    • For screening tests at 10 to 13.6 weeks of pregnancy and for the 1-hour 50-g glucose screening test (to check for gestational diabetes) at 26 weeks, you will need an appointment.  Please call 1- 833-991-2662. You will be given two appointments.
    • The test for the Trisomy 21 Prenatal Screening Program of Québec is usually done at the same time as your 10 to 13.6 week screening test. Please call 1- 833-991-2662 for an appointment.
    • If your doctor asks you to do the 2-hour 75-g glucose tolerance test, go to the Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé test centre before 8:00 a.m., Monday to Friday. You can’t eat or drink for 8 hours before this test. 
    • To get an Anti-D shot, go to the Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé test centre between 8:30 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. with your Anti-D prescription, the pink pamphlet you received at your 26-week blood test and your hospital card.

    Duration of the test:

    • For the 50 g test, duration is 1 hour.
    • For the 75 g test, duration is 2 hours.
    • Glucose 2 hours PC.

    *** COVID-19 *** Please note that during the pandemic, this test is available by appointment. You must make an appointment at one of our regular test centres.

    Make sure you respect the particularities associated with the following tests:

    • Faecal calprotectin: The faecal calprotectin test is only perform from Monday to Wednesday at any CLSC or Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé.
    • Hemochromatosis (HFE1): The hemochromatosis (HFE1) test is perform from Monday to Thursday at any CLSC or Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé, except the day before Ouvre un lien interne dans une nouvelle fenêtrestatutory holidays. The "Justifications cliniques" section of your sample collection form must be fill up. 
    • HLA B27: The "Justifications cliniques" section of your sample collection form must be fill up. This test is done once in a life time only. On Friday and eves of statutory holidays, the test must be done in the morning.
    • Stool parasite testing.

    Don’t take your medication the morning of your blood test, unless your doctor indicates otherwise.

    At home sample collection is only for people with severely limited mobility. With a referral only.

    If you need containers, you can get some the next time you have blood taken.

    If you need containers but don't have an upcoming test, go to one of our test centres with your prescription (make sure to check the opening hours before you go).

    Containers can be obtained or returned to any test centres from 7:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. without appointment, Monday to Friday. Our test centres are closed during statutory holidays.

    Note that test centres do not provide results. You will get your test results from your doctor.
