Adoption services in Laval
When you call us about applying for adoption, we will advise you about the process to make a regular adoption request. We will also ask whether you are interested in taking part in the “Banque mixte” program (for foster families who can commit to a child in the very long term, which may lead to adoption). If this is the case, we will refer you to the administrative officer.
The wait for an assessment at the Laval Child and Youth Protection Centre is currently about five years for a regular adoption.
When we are ready to proceed with your psychosocial evaluation, you will receive an evaluation kit with the necessary documents to fill out. The psychosocial evaluation is then carried out: if the result is positive, you will then wait to be matched with a child. This wait time is currently about two years.
The Laval Child and Youth Protection Centre receives and handles requests from applicants who live in Laval. If you do not live in this territory, please contact the child and youth protection centre in your region.
If you are interested in adoption, contact the Adoption Service at 450 975-4150, extension 4422.
Become a foster family
The CISSS de Laval is constantly looking for family-type resources to meet the needs of the Laval population from 0 to 100 year olds having various bio-psycho-social issues. Currently, there is a need for foster families for 0-17 year olds.
Being a family-type resource, what is it?
Family-type resources consist of foster families and foster homes.
A foster family is made up of one or two persons who welcome to their main place of residence a maximum of nine children in difficulty who are entrusted to them by a public institution to meet their needs and offer them favorable living conditions to a parental type relationship in a family context.
A foster home is made up of one or two persons who, at their main place of residence, receive up to nine adults entrusted to them by a public institution in order to meet their needs and offer them living conditions close from a natural environment.
