When you call Info-Santé or Info-Social (811), you can quickly talk to qualified professionals who can help you. They can give you sound advice based on scientific references recognized by health and social services specialists. If required, they can refer you to the most appropriate resources for your health condition.

These professionals will ask you questions to understand your situation. They also collect information using a thorough questionnaire to safely assess your situation and to determine its urgency and the best response.

They may also give you answers to common health, psychological and social situations and, if need be, direct you to the right place in the health and social services system.

    • Accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

    Info-Santé 811, option 1

A nurse can give you advice about your health problem and tell you which health professional to consult.

Examples of when to call Info-Santé:

    • If you have a flu that lasts several days and you’re wondering if you should see a doctor.
    • Your child wakes up with a high fever and you’re wondering if you should go to the emergency room.
    • You want to know how to relieve the itching and swelling of an insect bite.
    • You have questions about health network resources.

The nurse will verify your personal information for two reasons:

    • For safety purposes (in case your situation becomes urgent during the call).
    • To follow legal rules and standards for clinical consultations with any health care professional in Quebec.

Finally, have a paper and pencil handy to note down the main points that the nurse tells you.
