SIDEP Integrated STBBI screening and prevention services

WHAT IS THE SIDEP?

The SIDEP Clinic at the CISSS de Laval offers screening for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBI), such as HIV and the hepatitis C virus (HCV), for people who are most at risk of contracting an STBBI.

WHO CAN GET A CONSULTATION AT THE SIDEP?

  • People who inject or sniff drugs.
  • Sex workers and clients.
  • Sexual partners of a person infected with an STBBI (screening and treatment).
  • Men who have sex with other men (MSM).
  • People in difficulty (young people, women, men).
  • People who are or have been incarcerated.
  • People from Indigenous communities.
  • People from countries where HIV is endemic.

WHAT SERVICES CAN I GET?

The SIDEP clinic offers free and confidential access to adapted STBBI services. A team of nurses provides the following:

  • Screening for HIV and HCV and other STBBIs.
  • Treatment of STBBIs in people who do not exhibit symptoms.
  • Quick referrals for treatment and follow-up for people diagnosed with HIV or HCV.
  • Counselling on lower-risk drug use and access to injection materials.
  • Counselling on safe sex and access to condoms and lubricants.
  • Counselling on pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection.
  • Vaccination against Hepatitis A and B and against HPV.
  • Referrals to the appropriate services and resources as needed.
  • Initiation of hormonal contraception and emergency oral contraception.

All of these services are provided at the SIDEP clinic at the CLSC du Marigot and in some community organizations (e.g., Sphère – santé sexuelle globale; L'Oasis – unité mobile d'intervention; strip clubs, massage parlours and escort agencies).
